About Dax

Dax was brought to HUA when his person could no longer properly care for him.  This handsome boy is super smart and somewhat of a free spirit.  We think he may have spent most of life running around outdoors.  He may have been a farm dog not tended to as when he arrived he was extremely matted and covered in ticks.  Dax has some issues with restraint–another reason we believe he was a farm dog–and he will need an experienced person to work through this with him.  We initially thought he was highly dog reactive, but out in playgroup Dax is a good friend.  It is barriers and restraint that upset him.  As with many Aussies, Dax is hyper-focused during training sessions and quickly picked up on basic commands.  The sweetest thing about this funny fella is that he fell head over heels for a pink squeaky ball, and this has greatly helped him with stress management.  He has rejected every other toy we have provided to him–he just wants his special pink one.  He leaves it in his apartment when he goes for a walk, then picks it right back when he return.  We think Dax is brilliant to have found a way to self soothe.  This is one very special dog.
