HOMEWARD BOUND - ADOPTED - now living happily in Gering, NE!
In late December of last year, just beofre Christmas, a Good Samaritan driving along a blacktop highway in the dark spotted something wriggling on the side of the road. That moving object turned out to be a litter of seven freezing Husky mix puppies. This good person was astonished and horrified. If three of the pups had not been light in color she would have missed them altogether. There weren't any houses or farms nearby which is probably why the puppies were dumped where they were--no witnesses. These precious babes appeared to be only 5-6 weeks old and had not even been weaned yet. They were hungry and thirsty when they arrived but did not even know what to do with kibble or a bowl of water. Once we softened the food they got the right idea and filled up their bellies.
It was touch and go there for a while as staff members worried over their fragile charges, making sure each of them was gaining weight and staying healthy and warm. Due to the excellent care they received, the Highway Huskies, our little Christmas miracles, grew fat and happy and were spoiled rotten. Each one is sturdy, silly, goofy and adoring of the humans who saved their lives. The gorgeous puppies are now ready to move into their forever homes and, as with every cat and dog at the shelter, we will work tirelessly to ensure that the perfect families are found for them. They are deserving of living the most wonderful lives imaginable.
The puppies are very active and will grow to be about 40-50 pounds. We are looking for homes with fenced-in backyards to ensure their safety and allow them room to run as puppies must do!
