RockStarB1UPDATE 9/6/13 CALL TO ACTION – SEPT 9TH 8:00 AM – LANCASTER COUNTY COURTHOUSE

The jury trial for Julia Hudson, of Malcom, Nebraska, was set to start Sept 9th. Ms Hudson is the former owner/breeder of the 19 Lancaster County Rockstars that Hearts United for Animals rescued on April 15th, 2013. Authorities had been battling with Ms Hudson for months over the filthy conditions at her facility and the condition of the dogs. While she agreed to surrender 19 of the dogs, that only represented half. The rest are still there, suffering, and it is suspected that she has added more. Conditions cited included inadequate shelter, inadequate food and water supply, and inches of feces in the ramshackle little shanty that many of the dogs were housed in. The larger dogs, Standard Poodles, had no shelter at all. She was charged with animal cruel neglect/abandonment. It is a class 1 misdemeanor.  On September 5th she pled no contest and was found guilty.  We believe it was in an effort to avoid the media attention she knew was coming with our demonstration.  Her attorney insisted upon sentencing that day, no doubt so that she could avoid negative publicity.  The county attorney insisted on a pre-sentence investigation and the judge agreed.  She will be sentenced at a later date.  This will give time to gather more documents to be submitted for consideration.  On Sept 9th we need to make our voices heard.  See below to RSVP on our Facebook events page or email lori@hua.org.  We will have 150 signs featuring the dogs we rescued and photos of the conditions inside the Taj Mahal kennel owned by Julia Hudson.  The signs will be imploring the judge to implement 28-1019, which will sentence Mrs. Hudson to not own animals again for a period of 5 years.  We do not find anything less to be acceptable.  Fines won’t stop her.  Jail time would be nice, but won’t stop her.  Taking away her breeding license still means that she can own dogs, and we are not certain that the Nebraska Department of Agriculture will take away her license.  NO MORE DOGS FOR HUDSON is our request to the judge.

Hearts United for Animals documented the conditions of the 19 dogs rescued from Ms Hudson’s property, taking over 500 photos and submitting an extensive written report to the district attorney and sheriff from the HUA veterinarian, Dr James Gigstad, who triaged the dogs on the day they arrived. Conditions noted included:
• Dogs shaved so brutally that they were burned and bleeding
• A deep open cut oozing infection on the inside of one of the dog’s legs
• Mats the size of golf balls causing one dog to be unable to walk well or see
• Nearly all were underweight
• Feet encrusted with filth from walking in feces in their small cages
• Nails overgrown and curling under
• Luxating patellas
• pH imbalances, likely due to not having been provided with enough water
• Skin infections
• Ear infections
• Eye infections
• Scores of teeth hanging on by a thread in their putrid, infected mouths
• Hernias from giving birth over and over
• Pyometra infections of the uterus
• A 6-month old puppy with a deformed leg, possibly caught in wires
• Lower jaws rotted completely away due to infection
• Upper jaws with holes rotted into the sinus cavities (fistulas)

Video of the dogs rescued can be viewed here:

HEARTS UNITED FOR ANIMALS IS REQUESTING THE PRESENCE OF AS MANY VOLUNTEERS AS POSSIBLE TO HOLD SIGNS OUTSIDE OF THE COURT ON SEPTEMBER 9TH AT 8:00 AM (WE WILL PROVIDE SIGNS) AS A SHOW OF SUPPORT FOR THE DOGS RESCUED AND THE DOGS STILL SUFFERING AT HER BREEDING FACILITY. WE WANT THEIR RELEASE!  AND WE WANT JULIA HUDSON TO BE UNDER COURT ORDER TO NOT OWN DOGS AGAIN!

PLEASE RSVP ON OUR FACEBOOK EVENTS PAGE OR TO lori@hua.org SO WE CAN HAVE A SIGN READY FOR YOU AND KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE TO EXPECT.

There has got to be a special Hell for Puppy Millers who do this, and who put greed way above even the most basic humanity! Yeah, I cried watching!

Every concerned citizen should pray that Ms Hudson receives the harshest punishment available and never has another animal in her “care.” If there is justice for puppy mill animals, this woman and her ilk will be put out of the breeding business. I am attending the trial.

If I didn’t live on the other end of the state, I would be there. I will be there in spirit and praying that the judge demonstrates wisdom and shuts this evil person down.

I truly believe when any of these tortured dogs pass on, they go to heaven and become angels. May Ms Hudson someday find out what the hell is like that she put these innocents thru. Sorry to sound vindictive.

Studies show that children who abuse or witness animal abuse have a significantly higher rate of violence as they grow to be adults. They are in fact sick human beings to abuse a helpless animal. Please shut down the puppy mills for the sake of the animals and mankind, it is an assault on us all.
Mankind has to be held accountable for the vile acts they perpetrate on animals.

I cannot believe someone could care so little for another living creature. All animals are angels and they deserve better than what Ms. Hudson is giving them. She ought to get what she gives. Bless you people. I will be there Monday the 9th of September to support you.

I pray the judge can see clearly that this woman does not and should not ever own or have in her possession another animal of any kind for the rest of her life. She is a predator and should have periodic checks and made to register the same as sex offenders do, because as far as I’m concerned she is one in the same. ( I’m not just talking about Hudson either.) That way these backyard breeders, hoarders, puppy millers call them what you want will be forced out of business! The fines and sentences should be very stiff.
Last but not least to all you people who buy from pet stores SHAME ON YOU, you help keep these horrible conditions for innocent, helpless animals thriving. THINK before you go to one. If just these small suggestions could be put into place, think how many this could save from living such a horrible, painful life.
From an animal lover of all kinds, dogs just have a special place in my heart. I’m disappointed I can’t make it to the hearing, but good luck to all of you that do.

It is just unfortunate that Ms Hudson could not receive the justice she truly deserves to be locked in a cage with no amenities to clean herself, to live in her own feces for a few years. I am sure this would enlighten her to just how horrific her crime is. I wonder if photos of those dogs shown outside of the retail pet stores that buy from would help customers to see what they are supporting. I think most people would not buy from them if they could see.
Thank you HUA for all the work you’ve done to relieve so many sweet and innocent dogs from so much pain and suffering
