When a breeder discontinued her program, Hearts United for Animals took in the last twelve Shih Tzus, all of whom were estimated to be between 11 and 14 years old. The poor babies had infrequent exposure to human contact and they were scared to pieces. They had no idea that something wonderful was about to happen. Nothing good had been bestowed upon them for their entire lives. Kindness was something they could not comprehend. It took this tiny Shih Tzu about a minute to decide he had reached heaven. Despite an enlarged heart and a mouthful of rotted teeth removed during his dental, Shamus is the happiest boy in town. He graces us with his presence in the office, bopping about without a care in the world. He absolutely adores every human he meets, greets visitors at the door with the waggiest of tails, snuggles in laps, is kind to all of the other little dogs even when they're not necessarily kind to him. He even responds to simple commands--such a smart and pleasant little man. To have been a puppy mill survivor and to have come so far so quickly...well, Shamus is just a miracle.
