We debated for quite some time over whether poor Tippy should remain at the shelter as a Sanctuary Sweetheart or be offered up for adoption. This precious girl has had such a rough go of it that we finally decided that we should give her every opportunity to find her own home for the first time in her life. Tippy's owner's sons brought her to HUA. They explained that she had been the "outside" dog and another had been the "inside" dog. Tip had lived her entire life outdoors without even the minimal amount of kind human contact. When she arrived, it was no surprise that she was riddled with heartworms. To make matters even worse, she had mammary tumors that required a full mastectomy. Her lab report indicated that the tumors were malignant, that her prognosis is guarded and that vigilance is warranted. Such rotten news for a precious soul who has suffered so much. Despite it all, Tippy is happy and thrilled to be free. She has discovered that being rubbed on the belly is perhaps the sweetest feeling on earth, and she dramatically flops over whenever we are near in case we don't get the hint. She lives with a rather grouchy old poot and he loves her. We want so very badly for Tippy to know the joy and comfort of her own home. Of course, she can stay with us until the end of her days if that's what is intended for her, but OH how we would love to see her score her own digs!
