Susan saw Rose in the median for three days, and then she was there no longer. A month later and forty miles away there was Rose at a rest stop appearing as if out of a dream. It was definitely the same dog, just terribly emaciated and ill.

Susan wrote to HUA and asked how she could win the trust of this dog in order to catch her, and is she could catch her would we take her. We responded with advice and answered - yes, we would care for the dog.

Very later one night we drove to the airport in Omaha and met the plane the Yellow Rose arrived on from Houston. When we opened the gate or her flight kennel, we found a very cautious do, silent and wary, not unnerved from the flight, just well taught in distrust.

We have handled Rose with great care not only for the state of her health and the necessary treatment for heartworms but also for our concern over how such a long-suffering, capable, sensitive dog would accept us and the other animals.

We quickly learned what a marvelous girl we had. Rose is a congenial survivor. When introduced to the other dogs, she does a charming little act of courtship. Every day she greets us with a big smile on her face and goes through a serious of posing, prancing and head-cocking. She is a most graceful dancer. Rose has become the picture of health, so very beautiful.

Rose is one of many dogs that HUA has rescued from all over the country. Someday soon Rose will go to a very special home of her own. She will always be our bright and shining star, our Yellow Rose of Texas, the sweetest girl we knew.
