Rachel was abandoned on the streets of a very small town. People working in a grain elevator took pity on her and threw her some food.

One night this sweetest of girls was wondering around the area where the speed limit is 15 miles per hour and someone in a car ran her down.

After watching Rachel drag herself around for three days, the people at the elevator called Hearts United and asked if we could help. We drove an hour to the town and very carefully moved this lovely girl into the Shelter van and took her directly to the hospital. Rachel's thigh bone was broken close to her hip.

The break was very difficult to repair and required two surgeries. It took 12 weeks of recovery but Rachel is as good as new. She's a brilliant, happy girl who was adopted by Barb and Cindy and lives in Maryland.
