This is what happens to dogs who are abandoned in the country. Marina's leg was severed in a trap, she got pregnant and gave birth to a litter of puppies, she was starving and had to either fight for food or fight to save her puppies. When Marina was rescued she was covered in blood, emaciated, filthy, covered with fleas, ticks and burrs and desperately trying to save her puppies.

When she got to the shelter, she drank and drank and drank. Then she ate and ate and ate. Then she settled down to feed her 8 puppies. She was so happy to be clean and have a soft safe place for her babies. Just look at the difference in the photos. Marina had to stay at HUA for many weeks because she had to be in quarantine in case the animal she fought had rabies. Happily, she was fine and she was quickly adopted into a wonderful family.

Thousands of dogs dumped in the midwest do not have happy endings.
