HUA got an email from Lynette in Ohio who had heard about Bert's plight. She asked whether we could help. Of course we could! We immediately emailed Patti in Dallas who arranged to drive to Oklahoma and pick up this very special boy. She drove him to Kansas where she met volunteers who drove Bert to the Shelter.

We soon learned the wonders of Bert. He may be blind and deaf but he is more capable that almost any dog we have ever met. He went to one of our foster homes where he zinged in and out of the dog door even before his foster mom could show it to him. He jumped up on the bed and then off again, learned every piece of furniture as if he had always lived there. He had a special bark to call his foster mom if he wanted something.

Bert was adopted by Anna and Steve in Maryland and joined HUA Alumni Dachshunds, Finley and Baxter and brother Dachshunds Nemo and Murphy. He learned his new home immediately and was quickly running all over the house with his Dachshunds brother's tails wagging all around.
